Default What do you want from Albumfire!

The hierarchy (sp?) haven't been trying to think of something to liven up Albumfire a bit. What ever we do and what ever we think might not actually work, so I'm looking for some ideas here people!

Let's get the ball rolling!

I'll start giving away free stuff when I start getting paid for moving album after album to the graveyard.

It's not my call but I'm guessing the owner/money contributers wouldn't be too chuffed on spending more of their own money.

Just floating ideas here man. It seems like there are only a few people uploading and everyone else either bailed or isn't into it anymore. Maybe some advertising to get some new folks?

I am no expert, well actually I am

What this site needs is an overhaul. Your rules are too strict. I am an uploader, but dayum, why should I start uploading on a site that makes me post 50 BS posts to even see any hidden content or links!!!

As an uploader/downloader I go for quality > quantity. I want to see what kind of quality the uploads here are. I would love to know if I am getting FLAC files with CUE, MP3 *and what quality that is*, etc.

There are a lot of forums that share music links, why should I fool around with one that wants to operate like Fort Knox?

All you HAVE to share by our rules is a single full cd. Not sure how you feel that 1 cd is too strict?
To see the links, all anyone has to do is either post in the thread or click the "thank you" button in the first post in the thread.
50 posts will not auto show you the hidden links.
50 posts will put you in a different usergroup that gives you access to the media section of the site, which contains movies, tv shows, etc..

I agree 110% on this, but that should be posted by the person uploading or sharing the link, although i'm guilty myself about not doing this. It would be good information to have though.[/quote]

It's only as hard as you make it out to be. If sharing even just a single full cd is too hard for someone, then yes, there are plenty of sites out there for those people who just wanna leech. If you're sharing, then you should have NO trouble with this site, nor should this site be seen as being too harsh.
Personally i'd prefer a site where everyone shares. Not just a few sharing & majority leeching everything. Why waste your time sharing if you're getting nothing in return, while others do nothing & get everything?
If you find a rule you feel is too harsh, then feel free to show me or any of the admins a rule that is too strict & it can be discussed. But the sharing of a single cd just is not going to be seen as too harsh. I mean damn, you are supposed to share a single cd before you have a combined 50 posts/thanks given by you. If you do not, then I send you a warning about it. If you choose to ignore it, then yes I will ban you. And believe me, I have no problems doing so to leechers. But 50 posts/leeches to get links is not exactly too strict by any means.

Lightbulb idea

Can we have an upload host built into the site to make sharing more streamlined? I think more people would share now but are too lazy and if we had an easier way for the uninitiated maybe they would up more?

I think that is against most US hosting policies. It'd also cost a helluva lot more for hosting per month considering the total space needed for uploads.

Well then maybe a script that makes a form you can use at albumfire to upload to whatever host? if it's against us policy then host outside the US.

Dunno where Shaggy is from, but even if he has a foreign based hosting, but he lives in the US, then he would still be held liable if RIAA or another group came knocking.
I'll link this thread where one of them can take a look & answer that question better for you.

It would get to costly to host files. I like this setup using other sites to host the files. What I think I need to do is update the vb forum to the most recent version, change the skin, advertise, and a few other things. I just need to gather up some bills to do that advertising and I don't know where to advertise either.

There is a place, but it's in the VIP section.

I have seen this on other VB forums. It would benefit the moderation team and members to have a button in the left corner of each post to report dead links

That's what the button with the little red flag is there for. Sends an email to all the mods telling us there's a dodge post.

I am fully aware of what the "report post" button does. The dead link button requires no typing on the reporters part, just a click of the mouse.

Just trying to be helpful

I am not all that familliar with the site and its workings, but do you guys have an Upload team?

Also it would be cool if you offered "albumfire" custom avatars / Signatures for people. I know that some of you mods are bound to be SFX boffins and could come up with some fantastic 3D sigs for VIP's, etc.

Nope no upload team.
Everyone is required to post at least one album or get banned for leeching.

We try to encourage everyone to post albums by giving VIP to those who share.
